Peat land attributes

Recommended Posts

Hi Pirkko,

Some of the SSURGO soil databases (if you are using SSURGO data) have infiltration parameters included in tables that are downloaded with the SSURGO data. WMS has tools (the "Join SSURGO data" tool) that help you read these data values and use them in your GSSHA mapping tables. If you do not have SSURGO data and don't want to do laboratory measurements on your soil, the standard has been to use the Rawls and Brakenseik soil parameter estimates as a starting point and then to calibrate your values. The soil parameter values can be found on the gsshawiki.com site at:

[Though it is tough to say what impact large percentages of peat would have on your soil parameters]

Hope this helps,
