amy
Hi, My institution bought the SMS 10.0, however it was the Mesh and Map modules only (including just the Generic 2D mesh model). I am trying to build a mesh in a very large domain, but I am having some problems, maybe because I am a new user or I don't have the appropriate modules to do that. I have 2 questions: 1- When building the mesh, I verified that there are no changes in the final mesh (aspect, number of elements and nodes) if I use or not the bathymetric data, just the contours are different. Is there any way to obtain different refinements of the mesh (different size of the elements) in function of the bathymetric data using the modules I have available? 2- After creating a polygon and when redistributing the vertices along the arcs, is there any way to define a linear or log distribution of the vertices in the arc located in between 2 arcs with very different vertices distribution? The idea is to obtain a smoother effect when there is a shift from small to big triangles. Thank you for you help. Amy

To use the mesh generation type you are describing, you will need the scatter module. The scalar paving mesh generation algorithm allows you to generate a scatter set defining the node spacing, or size of elements over the domain. If you do obtain the scatter module you will be able to use the size data set smoothing algorithm to ensure good transitions between elements - see http://xmswiki.com/xms/SMS:Smooth_Size_Data_Set_(Data_Menu)
