Erik&Jonas
We have a model area consisting of a lagoon with two separate inlets, 40 km apart. We have been able to make a size function density mesh for one inlet in ADCIRC. Is it possible to make a density mesh that radiates out of both inlets? Rusty Jones
One of the advantages of size functions is that they can have an unlimited number of increasing/decreasing resolutions. The trick is that there are several ways to create size functions. One option would be to click out a scatterset manually and assign size functions that you deem appropriate. You would want to make sure to have sufficient resolution near the inlets and long the shore. Anytime you use a manually generated size function, it is probably a good idea to use size data set smoothing to make sure that transitions are not too rapid. see http://www.xmswiki.com/index.php?title=SMS...Set_(Data_Menu) One of the best ways to create a good size function is to use the LTEA tool within SMS. LTEA stands for Linear Truncation Error Analysis and uses simplified runs of ADCIRC to compute the optimum spacing throughout the domain. The LTEA algorithm was developed by Dr. Scott Hagen. More information on the LTEA method can be found on the following wiki page. http://www.xmswiki.com/index.php?title=SMS:LTEA There is a tutorial on using LTEA with SMS (in the most recent update of SMS). You can find information on obtaining this tutorial on the following wiki page. http://www.xmswiki.com/index.php?title=SMS:Tutorials Rusty We have a model area consisting of a lagoon with two separate inlets, 40 km apart. walkington
Hi, I don't know whether you are modelling two forced boundaries with this model but whenever I have tried to have more than one ocean boundary SMS 10.0 crashes out. I know that ADCIRC doesn't have a problem with it but trying to get SMS to deal with the concept seems difficult. (At the moment it isn't a real problem but it might be worth looking at.) Thanks Ian
Rusty Jones
Hi, We discovered the problem with two ocean boundaries not long ago and hope to correct it in the future. The following page on our wiki includes a description of a work around that has been used before. Go to the section on Glacier Bay Alaska. http://www.xmswiki.com/index.php?title=SMS:LTEA Hi, I don't know whether you are modelling two forced boundaries with this model but whenever I have tried to have more than one ocean boundary SMS 10.0 crashes out.
