Alan K. Zundel
What is the full, proper citation for SMS 10.1 or 11.0 for use in publications? If you are just referring to the program itself, it is traditional to cite the Users Manual or tutorials. Past versions have been cited as:4. Surface-Water Modeling System, Version 4.0, Reference Manual , Engineering Computer Graphics Laboratory, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, 1995. or 9. Environmental Modeling Research Laboratory (EMRL)(1998). Surface-Water Modeling System, Version 5.0, Reference manual and tutorials, SMS V 5.0, Brigham Young University, 368B CB, Provo, Utah, 1998.Following that model, you could cite version 10.1 or version 11.0 as:Surface-Water Modeling System, Version 10.1, Reference Manual, http://xmswiki.com/xms/SMS:SMS, Aquaveo, LLC, Provo, Utah, 2010.Surface-Water Modeling System, Version 11.0, Reference Manual & Tutorials, Aquaveo, LLC, Provo, Utah, 2011.If your are citing a specific capability, you could refer to a paper on that functionality or the section of the users manual or wiki that describes it.
