  1. As the title states, I am looking for a working example of a 2dm mesh file with E6T elements (six node quadratic triangles). The information on the SMS wiki is incomplete and contradictory - see highlighted image below. Source - xmswiki.com/wiki/SMS:2D_Mesh_Files_*.2dm The "Format" and "Sample" items The most complete information that I've found through Google searches is from a Department of Defense document from 1999 - see highlighted image below. Source - gmsdocs.aquaveo.com.s3.amazonaws.com/fform30.pdf Following this example, I created the attached file "test_2dm_e6t_single_element.2dm" in an attempt to create a single E6T element like the one shown in the image above. The file is read and the nodes are recognized, but not the element is not read resulting in an error. Any help would be greatly appreciated! test_2dm_e6t_single_element.2dm
  2. Hello, I am searching for a functionality in SMS to modify a mesh during runtime of my simulation. The modification should be read at a predefined time step. Another idea is that the simulation could also be stopped at a specific point and then carried on with the new mesh. Is there a way to do this? Any hint is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!     My question is regarding how the Bias option works in the Redistribute Vertices dialog box when specifying the Number of Segments along an Arc. My understanding of the bias option is that it positions the vertices so that the distance between the last two vertices is equal to the bias times the distance between the first two vertices, and any vertices in between are linearly interpolated. How is the spacing between the first two vertices determined/calculated?
  4. Hello everyone, I am trying to modify a previously done heavy mesh and generating it in a new shape by increasing resolution in my area of interest. Matter is, it is crashing during the run with ADCIRC+SWAN. 1. I made mesh to scatter from that main mesh using SMS 11.1. 2. Reduced the resolution of the whole scatter set by setting nodal tolerance limit. 3. Then, added some nodes at my area of interest manually. 4. Imported the mesh boundaries from the previous mesh and added nodestrings to all of them. 5. Made the polygon and applied scatter to mesh command. 6. Finally interpolated the bathymetry from the previous mesh. Now, SMS model checker is showing that, there is no problem with the new mesh. Also I have added nodal attributes (fort.13) of the previous mesh which got modified by SMS for the new one. I was trying to run it with Isabel (fort.22) & ADCIRC+SWAN model for last few days in a super computing environment. But, it's getting crashed every time after the time step of 600 seconds. Now, I am confused with the matter that, what is going wrong with it? Is it a mesh problem? or I need to create a fresh fort.13 for the mesh? Thanks.
  5. Hello All, I'm trying to automatically assign material types to a mesh according to the local land use pattern. So far I've found two ways: 1.) for an existing mesh, manually assign each element one material type 2.) assign the polygons, which are used to bound the auto-generation areas, a material type and then generate the mesh 1. is, especially on larger meshes, very error-prone and time-consuming. 2. is possible, if one can generate the mesh from polygons - which isn't always possible or feasible. Is there a way to assign material types to an existing mesh using a polygon-shape? Thanks for the help and have a good WE, S. Berendsen
  6. Hello, I have a DEM file, and I would like to create a mesh from it. I imported the file as scatter points and then I filtered the data with the filter angles option. Then I made the triangulation, but in some areas I still have a huge amount of triangles, with elements connecting all the points of the DEM. How is it possible to create a coarser mesh, with bigger triangles? I would like to have an interpolation during the triangulation process, not only a connection of the scatter nodes… Thank you very much! Matteo
