  1. Good day, I would be interested in seeing the formula that the data set toolbox applies when it smooths a spacing function in order to respect a maximum area change condition (i.e. to honour a 0.5 ratio limit between areas of adjacent elements). Thanks, Andrea

As I came back to run the ADCIRC grid generation toolbox, I noticed that, in comparison with around 1 year ago, the LTEA+CD output of SMS version 11.1.14 does not include the scatterset called "LteaCDResults". The latter corresponded to the error associated with the truncation of the governing equation. As I am using the same version, I do not understand why this is happening. Is it possible to know which changes have been implemented to the algorithm, if any? I did not fond any mention in the SMS bug release page http://xmswiki.com/wiki/SMS:Bugfixes_SMS Thank you.
  3. Hi all, Is there any way to use the output file of STWAVE, in particular the .obse.out or the .nest.out, as a spectral input condition of the BOUSS2D? Ideally I would like to use the STWAVE spectral output at a specific location as input to force the BOUSS2D wavemaker. The BOUSS2D domain partially overlaps the STWAVE domain. I am using the SMS 11.0.11 version. Andrea
  4. Good day, I am using again the Mesh Generation toolbox available with ADCIRC in order to adapt a mesh that I previously created, and I noticed that a new option, LTEACD, has been added. From a first series of trials I understood that LTEACD does not use the 9 x 9 molecule and re-meshes the whole domain (internal nodes and node along the boundaries) while LTEA only internal nodes. Are there any documents or tutorial briefly explaining the caracteristics of LTEACD? The SMS relative page seems not edited yet. http://www.xmswiki.com/xms/SMS:LTEACD Best regards, Andrea
  5. After I downloaded the most recent SMS version (11.0.11) I was able to run successfully the same LTEA test which crashed with a previous version. Thank you. Andrea

I have succesfully generated new meshes with the LTEA toolbox for large oceanic domains not including emerged bottom features (I am using version 11.0.3) When I try to remesh an existing mesh which includes an oceanic part and an estuary, and hence with parts of the bathymetry scatter set above mean sea level, the program still crashes.   7. I had your same problem, what I did was just ignoring the message. After that I came back to the map module, selected the "scalar paving density" as meshing method of my polygon attributes, and use the scatter set named "DelX - Final" as scalar meshing function. This should generate a mesh according to the scaled spacing in output from the LTEA linear run analysis. I am not sure this is the proper way to use LTEA, I am trying to contact SMS support team to solve this and other problems Andrea
  8. Hello, I am trying to run the LTEA toolbox of ADCIRC in order to adapt a mesh of around 125 000 elements that was previously created . The LTEA procedure works fine, the Linear run comes to the end with success but after that the software crashes. I am using SMS 10.1.11. The same problem repeats if instead of using my mesh I choose to generate a new mesh with the toolbox (create a linear run mesh option) How can I solve the problem? Andrea

Good day, I am running an ADCIRC-2DDI simulation for a wide domain including an ocean boundary type condition forced by astronomy components and a non periodic normal flow boundary condition for a river cross-section located inland, outside the area of tidal propagation. The inflow is specified as essential boundary condition with tangential slip, with a stage hydrograph. I am using the wet and dry option as well. The simulation runs ok. However when I check the results, the tide propagation is fine but there is no flow (no wetted elements) downstream the river section. I tried as well with higher inflow rates (200 m3/s for a 100 m cross section width) and all kind of values for WSE, according to what written in http://aquaveo.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=634&st=0&p=1725&hl=+normal%20+flow&fromsearch=1entry1725 The other parameters for creating the hydrograph should be fine, as the model runs until the end.   10. Hi all, is it possible to have an estimate of the maximum number of nodes/elements that the SMS mesh generator can handle (in particular for the case of triangular meshes)? What could be the improvement from the 32bit to the 64bit SMS version? I am working on a machine with 3.25GB of RAM. Thanks Andrea
  11. Hello everybody, I was trying to figure out how the gradient of a given scatter set is calculated in the data calculator - spatial option. In the wiki I found this definition: "Gradient. Creates a function that gives the gradient at each node. The gradient is calculated as the run divided by the rise." Is it possible to have a more explicit definition? in particular, as I suppose the run is the distance between two nodes and the rise the relative vertical difference, the gradient at each node is then the average of run divided by rise between all its neighbor points? how many points are considered?   12. Hi everybody, I am trying to run the STWAVE -> ADCIRC steering module, in order to calculate the influence of the wave field on the currents during storm conditions. Within the SMS 10.1, I did not manage to get the radiation stress file as an output from STWAVE, which should then be interpolated into ADCIRC by the steering module itself.
