  1. Just realized I never replied, but it is a bug with GMS. Apparently, you cant use the EVT package if there are areas where your mode layers crop out. For example, my layer 1 only exists in part of the model domain. If you are trying to use USG and EVT in GMS it just wont assign the bondary condition. The developers are looking at it, but it hasn't been fixed yet to my knowledge.
  2. I am running GMS 10.5 with MODFLOW USG. I can run my model using either the PCGU or xmd solvers, but they have very long run times (greater than 24 hours for 26 stress periods). So I purchased the SAMG solver yesterday. I enabled it today and that went smooth. However, when I run the model (using any NONLINMETH), the model starts the first iteration and immediately crashes with no error given. I then tried running the model in the command line and got the following (below). Any ideas on how to get it working? I have contacted technical support, but thought someone here might have gone through this already.
  3. Yes it does. There are even cells right next to a river that are not dry and GMS will not assign an EVT boundary condition to them because they are not in layer 1.
  4. That ended up being the problem. My TIN was created from the river coverage. So if the TIN did not fully cover a cell where the river coverage assigned a river BC, then the stage would be assigned a zero value. So, I had to make my transient TIN to overlap anywhere where the river coverage assigned a river BC before it would assign the proper stage.
  5. I am trying to use the EVT package with my transient MODFLOW USG model. Layer 1 represents some closed landfills only and then pinches out. Layer 2 represents the material below ground surface at the rest of the Site. EVT is only being applied to layer 1 (the landfill) and not layer 2 even though layer 2 is also the uppermost model cell where the landfill doesn’t exist. It does not matter which option I use to identify where evapotranspiration will occur (I.e. NEVTOP can be set at 1, 2, or 3 and this will still occur). Any suggestion on how to get EVT to work?
  6. I am using GMS 10.5 with MODFLOW USG. I have a coverage that is using the river package. The River is fairly wide so I created a polygon to represent the river. To assign the stage I created a TIN with the transient stage data. The problem is that when the polygon containing the river only partially covers a cell, GMS makes the cell a river boundary condition, assigns the bed elevation and conductance correctly, but assigns the river stage to be an elevation of zero feet. This obviously causes a lot of errors. Any solutions?
  7. I have another and slightly different question. I am getting this same error, but my river stage is assigned as being above the river bottom. For example I am looking at a cell and the river stage is set at 565 and the river bed elevation is set at 560.95 and I am still getting the Stage elevation is below river bed elevation in cell X during stress period 1 and also the River stage is below cell bottom elevation in cell X for stress period 1 even though the river bed elevation is above the bottom of the cell. Any ideas on what is going on?
  8. For everyone's edification I figured I would share how I solved this problem. Apparently what was really going on is that GMS did not like the geomery of the triangles in my TINs. So, I went back to the coverage from which I made the TIN and made the vertices all 50 feet apart and the converted those vertices to nodes. Then made a new TiN which had triangles that were much more symmetrical and relatively evenly spaced. That was it. That's all that needed to be done although you would have never known that from the error message it threw!
  9. Hello, I have several TINS and am trying to create a ugrid with the horizons to ugrid command. I keep getting the following error message and then GMS crashes. I am using version 10.4. if that makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated.
  10. I am wondering if there is a way to get the porosity in the material properties to transfer over to the MODPATH porosity array. My model is somewhat non-linear so I have to use NWT with upstream weighting and i created the model with solids created from rasters created in EVS so i don't have coverages to do a Map->Modpath command. Any help is appreciated.
  11. I am running a transient MODFLOW scenario using the NWT solver with UPW. We are doing significant dewatering in this scenario and the water is drawn down through several layers (necessary due to geology). The MODPATh model will run for a while and then crash due to "cell thickness is negative in" some cell. I believe particles are entering cells where the CHD and NWT have the water table below the bottom of the cell which is causing MODPATH to crash. Is there any way to fix this? I already have MOODFLOW outputting head at the end of every timestep and the IPHDRY set to a positive number. Thanks for any help you can provide.
  12. Hi, I have a non georeferernced image I want to bring into GMS 10.2. I can open up the files, and move around the little numbers in the dialogue. However, when I go to do anything else (like zoom or enter numbers) GMS crashes every time. How can I fix this?
  13. Hi, When I try to interpolate a raster to a modflow layer (using a .adf file) GMS wont actually perform the function. Sometimes it will map some elevations to the layer, but they will be nonsense elevations that arent anywhere near what is contained in the raster. Any thoughts or workarounds? Thanks, matt
  14. Hi, I have created a grid using the Map->3D grid command. However when i go to us the activate cells in coverages command, I am left with more active cells in layer 1 than in the other layers. For example when i look at the IBOUND array for the cells in row 6 column 11, the IBOUND is 1 in layer 1 and 0 in the remaining layers. This happens at numerous locations around the boundary of the model domain. Any suggestions on how to easily fix this?
  15. I tried that. It didn't work, but for a different reason. If the shape of the TCE and DCE source areas were different, then the source concentrations would be cut in half or more for some reason. I finally just did Map->RT3D for the TCE and then for DCE manually selected the cells and input the source zone concentrations.
  16. I am running a model with both TCE and DCE. I created a starting concentration coverage for both TCE and DCE as the contours for the individual constituents do not overlap. When I use the Map->RT3D command for TCE everything works fine. However when I then go to use the Map -> RT3D command for the DCE starting concentration, the TCE starting concentrations all disappear and I am left with just the DCE starting concentrations. I have tried mapping the coverages individually and simultaneously but I still get the same result. A similar thing happens when I try to map the transient specified source zone concentrations to RT3D. Anyone know how I can easily map these individual concentration coverages without the other species disappearing?
  17. never mind. I just tried switching the degradation of BTEX and then back to PCE/TCE dechlorination and that made the species appear. thanks for your help.
  18. Hi, I had already done what you suggested and no luck. the species are just not showing up. In fact i had created the model in version 9 and everything was fine, but I started having this problem when i switched over to version 10. Not sure what the issue is.
  19. Hi, I am using RT3D in GMS 10 to simulate Aerobic/Anaerobic PCE/TCE dechlorination. I would like to set up a transient observation coverage for the TCE and another one for DCE. However, it does not appear that I have that option. When I go to the coverage setup under observation points, there is no check box for transient concentration. Also, when i go to the Basic Transport Package and then to Packages, the Transport Observation Package is dimmed so that i can't check it. Does GMS no longer allow transient concentration observation points or is there something that I am missing in the documentation? Thanks for any help you can provide.
  20. Hi, It seems the more data (jpegs, shapefiles, etc.) I add to my model, the more often the arcs, polygons, and head contours disappear. If i refresh the model, they will all reappear. However, now that I am starting to build an RT3D model, they will not appear at all. I have tried turning off all of the jpegs and other images and that doesn't work. Anyone have any solutions? Thanks, Matt
