GIS shape files & imported MODFLOW

Recommended Posts

A MODFLOW simulation created in VisualMODFLOW was successfully imported into GMS. Also, the associated shapefiles used to create stream/river coverages were reading in and viewed in the same project. What is the process or how can the shapefiles be registered or made to align with the model grid/domain?

It sounds like the problem is the shape files are not matching up with the grid, is this correct? Make sure the coordinate system is set up correctly when reading in the shape files.

You are correct, the problem is the shape files are not matching up with the grid. Could you provide an explanation or at least point me in a direction or to a tutorial to understand how to make sure the coordinate system(s) are set up correctly when reading in the shape files? Thanks, BJA

Without looking at your files, my guess is that the shape files are in the correct coordinate system and the grid most likely needs to be moved.

You can right click on the 3D Grid in the project explorer and select the properties command. This will allow you to edit the origin and the rotation angle of the 3D Grid.
