  1. Hello, I am working in Version 12.2.11 of SMS and am running into the following error when I try to run the created simulation in SRH2D. Does anyone know of a fix for this error?
  2. I created an existing conditions SRH-2d Model (v 12.3.4) with 4 HY8 culvert structures in a 50-year and 100-year boundary condition, and the model runs well. Next a proposed conditions mesh was created to include a new railroad embankment located upstream of the existing railroad embankment. I copied the existing conditions boundary conditions file to create a proposed conditions file, as the existing conditions railroad and track will remain for proposed conditions. When I try to run the model I get the error message "Program stopped due to the following: MxVtFc limit has been exceeded in add_nbdf.f90, Error Code is: 4". Does anyone know what this error message means, or how to correct it? If I delete all the HY-8 Culverts out of the boundary condition coverage the model runs. If I add any culvert in any location or configuration to the boundary condition coverage, paired with the proposed conditions mesh, I always receive the above error message and the model stops. I have tried to use a new HY8 file and reduced the # of culverts down to one, but I always get this message. If I pair the proposed conditions boundary file (including culverts) with the existing conditions mesh it runs. I have attached some screen shots of the error messages. 3. I am running version 12.3.4. I have noticed that the velocity no longer goes to zero at the face of the pier. I know that with this last release, Aquaveo got rid of the "warping" effect due to the wet/dry element function, and I was wondering if this is a result of that change? Also, what are the consequences of it not going to zero? Thanks in advance!
  4. Good morning, Does anyone know how SRH-2D monitor lines work. I am wondering how they calculate the average water surface elevation? Is a straight average or flow weighted somehow? Also how is the flowrate calculated? I find they never match flux calculated with an identical observation line. Thanks, Phillip
  5. Is there an easy way to relate monitor line output file names to the monitor line ID in SMS? My monitors line have ID's from 17 to 26, but the out files are ...LN1.dat to ...LN8.dat? Thanks, Phillip
  6. Hi, I am modeling flooding along a stream that enters a long culvert under a parking lot in SRH-2D. During high flows the culvert overtops and pools in the parking lot before draining off in a different direction. The problem is that the 1D overtopping flow of the culvert acts like a wall through the parking lot. The water that overtops to the left side of the culvert is blocked by the 1D section from reaching the outlet and just pools and swirls. The blockage raises the water surface on that side of the culvert about a tenth of foot above the other side. Any thoughts on how to model properly. I have tired both HY-8 and the SRH-2D internal culvert routines, but they both have 1D flow along the top. I am using SMS 12.3.3 Thanks, Phillip
  7. Hi forum folks, Does anybody know if SMS can still prepare the basic text input files for SRH-2D? I'd like to run my simulations on a separate machine like I use to do (back in the day). Now it seems like SMS is handling all coordination/communication with the SRH-2D solver internally... I see the potential benefits there, but while a simulation is running... I can't seem to use SMS at all.... So I'd like to have SMS prepare the input files needed for SRH-2D solver so I can run those on a separate machine, and or in the background so I can continue to use SMS tools... Usually, when I post something like this, the functionality exists (and there's a big red easy button that I've been overlooking...)... hoping that is the case here. thanks in advance! -d
  8. Has anybody had any luck adding multiple obstructions into the same simulation? I have two nearby bridges... it will let me link either one to a simulation, but not both at the same time... Documentation seems to suggest 99 is the limit, but I can't get past 1... thx, -d
  9. Hello! I recently came back to SMS/SRH-2d after an unfortunate TELEMAC period. I previously used SRH-2D v2 and, during the processing, a window included a plot of the "residual monitoring" (figure). This figure helped me know the simulation convergence in real-time. However now that I am using SMS 12.2.12 with SRH-2D this window has disapeared... How can I get it back? Also, is there any way to display the Courant Number and inflow/outflow in real-time? I would be interested to know how the community follow the progress of their simulations. Thank you ! Pablo
  10. I am working in SMS Version 12.2.11 paired with SRH-2D Version 3.1.1. I am modeling several bridges and am trying to use the overtopping function but am running into inconsistencies with the error below when I try and enable overtopping for several of the pressure flow bridges. I have two copies of the simulation, both with the same mesh, materials, and boundary condition arcs. In one copy, I have all of the pressure flow boundary conditions arcs, and only have overtopping enabled for the arcs that do not return the error below. In the second copy, I have a subset of the pressure arcs that are giving the most trouble. Interestingly, when I run the model with the subset only, it runs fine, but those same arcs have overtopping enabled in the first simulation it gives the error. Has anyone run into similar issues, or have any thoughts on what might be causing the inconsistency? Thanks!
  11. Hello! I have a mesh file in the .2dm format, supported by SMS. I wish to use it in a SRH-2D simulation. The file is opened correctly by SMS, however I cannot seem to be able to link it to the simulation in the project explorer. The option "link to" is not available when I right-click on the mesh. How can I solve this problem? Thank you, Pablo
  12. I have a inflow boundary condition set at the upstream end of a model I am working on. I move the location of the boundary condition upstream ~250 feet (see pictures below) and now receive the error message below when running in SRH-2D. Has anyone else run into this issue? Before (Working) After (not working) Error

  14. Good Afternoon, I am having some strange issues with SRH-2D Materials Coverages within SMS 12.2.9. I created a materials coverage within SMS by converting a shapefile and the new materials file appeared to be correct. When I modified some of the polygons (within the newly created materials coverage) and performed the build polygons function I got an error renumbering message and now some of the previously assigned material types seemed to have changed. In addition, the description in the task bar at the bottom of the screen gives a different material type than I just assigned for some of the polygons. I believe the assigned type is being used in the calculations, but need to look into this further to be sure. It is taking a long time to assign materials (5-15 sec) to open the materials dialog. Has anyone had similar issues or have any possible suggestions for a solution? Thanks, Gary
  15. SMS 12.1 seems not to be able to prepare data for sediment transport with SHR-2D. There is no way to change coverage of type to ... Sediment materials for this model. Please update documentation because I spent some time trying to simulate sediment transport until I found out that it work fine with 12.2. beta and it is probably not implemented in 12.1. Lubo

    SRH-2D Error

We are using SRH-2D to model a proposed channel cut in a river. The inlet boundary condition we're using is a variable flow rate with positive and negative values as we have a tidal flow condition. When I run the model, I receive the error shown below. It seems like the negative flow rates are the source of the error. Does anyone know how to allow for negative flow rates in SRH-2D?
  17. I'm using SMS v11.2.10 (64-bit) Build Date: May 11 2015 How do you run an SRH-2D Morphological Analysis in SMS using the new srhgeom, srhhydro, srhmat, etc. files? When I launch SRH-2D, the pre-processor stops and waits for input at the specific gravity and number of sediment classes. I have a *_SIF.dat file with all of the correct parameters for the pre-processor, but SMS doesn't seem to utilize it. I downloaded the tutorial files for SMS 11.2 and 12.1, but none of the tutorials use a Morphological Analysis. Is it not possible to run SRH-2D in Morph mode from SMS? In the past... I've used the generic mesh with the SRH-2D template and run the pre-processor in partial interface mode. Thank you.
  18. I came across a problem involving culverts, not sure if it has to do with a bug or an operation error on my part. When launching the simulation run, I keep getting an error stating “Could not open the file *.hy8”. The model was able to run successfully without the culvert in-place in a separate run. So I know it has to do with the culvert. I entered the culvert in the model by following the procedure as outlined in the manual: 1- First, specified the file location of the HY-8 model, under the edit tab /preferences. 2- Created the *.Hy8 file through the boundary condition coverage. 3- By activating the BC coverage, created two arcs, then right-clicked and selected “Assign Linear BC”. 4- Launched the HY-8 program to enter the culvert properties. 5- As an experiment, I also copied the HY-8 program and libraries into the same project folder, re-specified the pathway and tried to run the model again, but got the same error message. Any help or advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
