  1. also i have some lenses which are not continuous across the extent of the tin which return volumes but then there are these few which dont? im totally confused as to whats the criteria behind wether a volume will close or not
  2. Does the tin have to be the exact extent of saturation, like will it not close if some of the layer does not exist in some places? For example i have a celing layer which is my water level as the bottom and an arbitrary constant value raster as the top (set to higher than any elevation the WL raster reaches) then i have the aquifer volume which is the water level raster and the bottom of the aquifer raster, then underneath i have a floor volume being the bottom of the aquifer rater and an arbitrary constant value raster which exists at a depth below the lowest point observed in the base of the aquifer raster. The celing and floor volumes will always have a volume across the spatial extent of the tin becuse of the thickness set, but becasue i am trying to use the same tin for each year that i do the analysis there are some times when the aquifer volume will not be saturated to the full extent of the tin and therefore in some locations the floor volume abuts the celing volume and the aquifer volume does not exist. Is this why it is not closing? because its not consistent along the whole spatial extent of the tin? If so then am i right in assuming i need to make a seperate tin for each year based on the extent of the aquifer saturation? The reason i am trying to maintain the one tin is becuase i am undertaking this for 18 different small lenses across 1 (of 2) areas for 10 different years, thats creating 180 different tins, and therfore im trying to avoid this. I have specified in my geovolume creations that i want the minimum volume to be 0m so i thought it should be able to close even if there are areas of 0 thickness.

    Tool Failures

Hi I am attempting to make mulitpul geovolumes for different spatial areas, i have tried to use the batch tool to do the Raster to Geovolume but it seems to only work properly for the first item on the list and the remaining areas do not get assigned horizon IDs. Therefore i have started doing them one by one but i am finding i am needing to close ArcMap between calculations for each area otherwise it wont work, i am having the same issue with the Calculate Z values tool also. Any ideas as to why the tool may be failing for more than one calculation in the map? Cheers Simone
  4. Hi I am calculating volumes using the Geovolumes tool, i am doing this for several discrete lenses in my area, i am adding a celing and floor raster to make sure the volume i want is enclosed to the top and bottom, however when running the "Is 3D closed?" tool it indicates that the middle layer (being my aquifer) is not closed dispite both the upper and lower layers being closed, is there a way to rectify this without changing the extent of the tin? Basically we are trying to calculate the change in volume of the aquifer over time and therfore the spatial extent of the aquifer is likely to change but i would like to keep the boundary the same for all years to keep the analysis consistent from one year to the next. Any help would be appreciated Cheers Simone
  5. i managed to get a chance to use GIS 10 to be able to use the 3D editor toolbar but because the geosection is a multipatch feature it will only allow certian edits, ie it doesnt let you alter the verticies, is there a way around this? Ive converted the geosection to points and was considering editing them instead but is there a way to only create points for the top of an aquifer rather than the default of the top and bottom? or a way to easily filter out the bottom of aquifer points becuse they are actually the top of the lower aquifer?
  6. Hi I created the time series model as outlined in the Well and Time Series tutorial, the model runs for idividual time periods but when i attemp to batch run it manages to run all the way through once and add the raster to the raster catalogue but on the second iteration it manages to make the points but wont use the IDW tool to interpolate the points as it says the points dont exist. I remember having this issue also when i was on the course, is there anyway you know to get around this? Cheers Simone
  7. great thanks, its because im on 9.3 still i dont have the 3D editor toolbar
  8. it wont let me attach the geodatabase but here is a picture
  9. Hi Im working on an ArcHydro GW project and due to the contentious nature of the water resources in the area its important that i use as much detail as possible where i can so instead of creating GeoSections directly from the raster catalouge ive chosen instead to complete 24 XS2D Cross Sections across the area, ive now converted them into a Geosection, but now that they are all lined up i can see where edits are evident, is there anyway to edit the geosection directly rather than editing each XS2D Panel, or is there a way to visualise the XS2D panels in arcScene so i can see how they line up with the other panels? Ive considered converting the geosections to points but then im not too sure how to edit the points also i cant find a tool to create a GeoSectionPoints shapefile, and im guessing it has to fit the schema to work since it copies across all the horizon and HGUID data etc. Ive attached my data for you to look at it migh explain a bit better what im trying to do, i want to edit the cross section joins based on surrounding cross sections and borehole lines. Thanks Simone
  10. Hi Gil Im just wondering if calculating geovolumes can be done in 9.3, i remember hearing something at the course about it that maybe it can only be done in 10 is that correct? Im not up to this point yet but thougth i should check so i can arrange for gis 10 if its needed. Thanks Simone
  11. Hi yes the line is in the data fram but is flat - sitting at 0m AHD see attached. Ive also noticed that rather than symbolising the line based on the geology ie one line with different colours on it which represent the different geologies its 3 lines all of different colours all lying on top of each other - is this maybe because im using 9.3? The other thing im having trouble with is that when i try to pull say one cross section into a new map im not able to use or set up a customised grid where the mahor and minor grid line shape files are able to create the grid, it automatically does this for me when i create the cross section in the fist instance. Is this likely to be an issue with my extentions or something, my in house GIS staff have never tried this before so they cant help me much as to why its not working. Im really sorry to bother you with every little detail but im the only person in my department using archydro groundwater at the moment so no one else can really help me out. Cheers Simone cross section.bmp
  12. i followed the tutorial but my XS2DLine is showing up in my cross section data frame but isnt projected to the DEM like it should be - any ideas?
  13. Hi Im trying to add outcrops to my cross sections however when i use the transform polygons to XS2D lines tool it doesnt come up with the outcrop option like it does in the online video it just has panel, boreline, panel divider, major grid, minor grid. Is there something i have to do behind the scenes to allow this option to come up? Cheers
  14. ok so i sorted the problem - it was an issue with the coordinate system - im in the southern hemisphere so that may have something to do with it? but the coordinate system i was useing was to restrictive ive since changed it to lamberts and its working fine
  15. Its giving me this error - its got something to do with the extent error.bmp
  16. Ive checked the coordinate system and they match and they each have hydro IDs and the bores are plotting in the correct location even without the E & N in the Bore shapefile but when the cross section wizard runs it brings up the new data frame thingo but its empty. Ive sent you an email with my data in it in the hope that you may be able to work out my problem. Its probably something very simple that im just missing but im not very GIS savvy so i havent been able to work it out yet
  17. yep thats what it was - thanks also just wondering does the wizard have trouble running if my bore has <null> eastings and northings? im just importing text into the empty bore feature data set and it works fine but it doenst keep the eastings and northings it just fills it with null - i think this is causing problems when im trying to determine my extent for the cross sections maybe?
  18. ok i got this working finally was just a case of GIS being GIS - i did the same thing i already did 10 times infront of someone else and bang - it worked. But now im having a bigger problem, ive created my section lines and have selected wells within a distance of my section lines, click on the 2D cross section wizard, click on my section line and nothing happens - the wizard isnt launching. Ive copied all my stuff into a new map and still the same problem - HELP
  19. Hi Im trying to create the section line feature class thru the AHGW toolbox -> subsurface analyst -> features -> create section line feature class tool and i keep getting this error Executing: CreateSectionLineFeatureClass SectionLine Start Time: Wed Jun 15 12:32:46 2011 Could not read SectionLine feature class. Failed to execute (CreateSectionLineFeatureClass). End Time: Wed Jun 15 12:32:49 2011 (Elapsed Time: 3.00 seconds) any ideas what i am doing wrong?
