  1. We are currently experiencing a few problems with users on this forum intent on posting advertisements and topics unrelated to water modeling. We apologize to our members who have come across some of the more offensive content. In a effort to keep unwanted users and posts out of our forums, we now require administrator validation for new user accounts. If you are new user and would like to create an account on the forum, first complete the email validation required when you create the account. Your new user account will then be reviewed and approved by a forum administrator within a couple of days. If your new account is not approved in a timely manner, please give us as call at 801.691.5530 or send an email with your user account name to support @ aquaveo.com. Thank you.
  2. We do not yet have a 64 bit version of GMS. It is something that is in the works, but it's hard to predict when it would be available. GMS utilizes many 3rd party libraries to perform certain functions (images, CAD, etc.) and each of those libraries have to be 64 bit before we can compile a 64 bit version of GMS. The soonest a version would be available is with the release of GMS 7.0.
  3. Most of the model options can be found in STWAVE | Model Control. STWAVE is a steady-state model so there are no time control to change. You can set wind input parameters in the model control.
  4. We are working towards developing a 64-bit version of our software, but the major roadblocks for us are the third-party libraries that our software utilizes for CAD support, images, etc. Once 64-bit versions of those libraries are available, we can compile our software for 64 bit.
  5. The Le Provost database files can be downloaded here: http://pubftp.ems-i.com/download/SMS/MISC/leprovost.zip
  6. Matevz, Please contact technical support directly at 801.691.5530 or support @aquaveo.com and we can help you get your hardware lock working.
  7. FYI: We've received feedback from some users that weren't able to complete the registration process for new accounts on the forum. When registering for an account on the forum, an email is automatically sent to you with a link to confirm the account creation. Sometimes this email gets caught in SPAM filters so check your SPAM folder if you didn't receive an email. If that doesn't work, just email or call Aquaveo Tech Support (801.691.5530 or support @aquaveo.com) and we can complete the account registration for you. We'll need to know the user name you created or the email address you entered when you created the account.

  11. I tried several WABED grids in SMS but I couldn't reproduce the problem. You are welcome to send your project to our tech support staff and we can take a look (support @aquaveo.com.) WABED requires Metric units but SMS will allow you to work in English units. The problem could be that you have the project units set to English and SMS performs a conversion each time you load the WABED grid. If you could send us your project files or list the steps that cause this to happen, it would help us identify what is happening.
  12. For SMS v9.0 and earlier, you have to run ADCIRC through SMS if you purchased ADCIRC with SMS because of how the model was licensed. For SMS v9.2 and higher, you can run ADCIRC from a DOS prompt. I don't believe ADCIRC receives any command line arguments, but you will need to rename your files to fort.xx for ADCIRC to recognize the input. For example, the grid file is fort.14 and the control file is fort.15.
  13. The STWAVE version distributed with SMS 10.0 is STWAVE 5.2.
  14. About M2D-WABED Steering... The steering module was designed with the assumption that the M2D grid would be at least as large or larger than the WABED grid. There are routines for extrapolating from WABED to M2D, but not M2D to WABED. What this means is that if you are steering with currents, the interpolated currents on the WABED grid will be set to zero outside the M2D domain. About the WABED land cells that become ocean... The steering module updates the depths of the WABED model based on the water surface solution from M2D. If you have WABED cells that you want to remain dry, then assign large negative values to the land cells so that they stay dry.
  15. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by a wave breaker line, but you can insert floating barriers. Create a nodestring and designate the barrier in the CGWAVE | Assign BC... dialog.
  16. SMS does not support ADCIRC 3D.
  17. I was not aware that the half-plane version of STWAVE (at least the one we distribute) could handle spatially variable wind fields. I'm sure this version would work with the steering module, but the steering module doesn't include wind when interpolating ADCIRC data for STWAVE.
  18. I talked with the SMS development group about the status of the steering module with full plane STWAVE. Work on the steering module is controlled a great deal by priority decisions made by USACE-ERDC. Currently, steering with full plane version of STWAVE is not a priority, so it will not be implemented any time soon. So for steering, WABED or the half plane version of STWAVE will need to be used. I am sorry for the confusion about the steering module capabilities. The wiki pages indicate that coupled steering is available with CMS-Wave (WABED). We'll need to have EMS-I clarify their website and state that steering works with STWAVE as long as it is the half plane version. So, if you want to use the steering module, you will need the CMS-Wave/WABED interface enabled. You can still use the half plane version of STWAVE through the CMS-Wave/WABED interface. If you contact EMS-I sales, I'm sure they would enable the CMS-Wave/WABED interface for you.
  19. Some users have noticed that when you use the URL http://forum.aquaveo.com, the forum doesn't remember your login information when you return to the site and login is required with each return visit. The URL http://forum.aquaveo.com will redirect to the XMS forums, but you may want to bookmark http://aquaveo.invisionzone.com/index.php?. When you use the latter address, you will not need to login for each return visit if you have checked "remember me" during your initial login.
  20. If you select to a generic text delimited format from SMS, you have the option of outputting the node IDs. The format of the .flo file is fairly simple: the first column represents the node ID, the second column is Vx, third column Vy, and WSE in the fourth column. The .net file is a little more complicated since the format of each line varies depending on the geometric object being defined. For more information, look at page A-80 of the FESWMS documentation.

    FESWMS

It is possible to do this with FESWMS. Construct the elements to conform to the plan of the bridge deck and assign ceiling values. Then add the weir. It's hard to explain the model results for your case without looking at the model. If you have a current SMS license, you are welcome to contact our tech support staff and send your project files for us to look at.
  22. WABED has the option for global wind input, but not spatially variable wind. We are working to get the steering compatible for full plane STWAVE and it should be ready by the end of the beta period for SMS 10.0. EDIT: Steering with the full plane version of STWAVE will not be available in 10.0. CMS-Wave/WABED or the half plane version of STWAVE will need to be used in steering.
  23. Just to add to what was explained in the linked thread...yes, you will need to use the WABED interface to steer in SMS v9.2+. I'll try to explain the reason why. The circulation-wave coupling in the steering module works with the pre-full plane version of STWAVE, which I'll refer to as the "old" STWAVE. The newer, full plane version of STWAVE is very different from the old STWAVE and the changes to the model made it incompatible with the steering module. The WABED model is essentially identical to the old STWAVE, so the old STWAVE interface in SMS became the WABED interface and the STWAVE interface was updated to be compatible with the new full plane version of STWAVE. If you look in the models folder where SMS is installed, you'll see an executable named "stwave_wabed.exe." The executable is the old STWAVE recompiled to run through the WABED interface. This is for those who prefer to use the old STWAVE over WABED. The steering module currently works with WABED or the old STWAVE but you will need WABED interface enabled to steer. In summary, the steering module is compatible with the half plane version of STWAVE, but you will need the WABED interface enabled. I'm sorry for the confusion on this. You can contact EMS-I and have your license changed to use the WABED interface. In hindsight, we should have handled the changes to STWAVE differently. We realized that there is a lot of commercial interest in the spin-down capabilities of the steering module, but we thought that use of the coupling capabilities of the steering module were utilized primarily by USACE-ERDC and people working on USACE projects. We are currenly putting the finishing touches on the steering module to make it compatible with bot WABED and the full plane STWAVE.
