ModelMechanic, Since you've been getting it to work with tutorial files it sounds like there is most likely something you overlooked in your model setup causing this issue. it would be hard to know more without seeing your model. It is possible that the software is having trouble with your specific files. If you think it may be a bug, reach out to support@aquaveo.com. They may be able to take a look at your files and determine if its a user error of a software error. -Ben
  3. I am not aware of the trouble with wall boundaries, but I am fairly certain that you cannot use these as an internal mesh boundary. The reference to using them along islands and channel banks assumes that there is a hole/void in the mesh that creates an external boundary.

  5. Hi, I think what you are trying to achieve could be done only aproximately, because you only have to assume what the head in the model will be. Anyway, for a given cell Qb = cb (hb - h), where Qb is the flow into the cell from the source cb is the conductance between external source and the cell hb is the head assigned to the external source and h is the model calculated head in the reference cell You problably have measured hb, so I would calculate cb this way: cb = Qb / (hb-h) But as I said, you can only assume what the value of h will be. Maybe calibrating the model against the measured flow could be a better practice.

  7. Hello Everyone I have a issue with defining inflow rate to related cells. I have the total volume of inflow for each month (i want make a time series general head), but i dont know how i should define the head of the 2 points of inflow line & amount of conductivity correctly. (for example the volume of inflow is 110 MCM & the length of inflow line is 97 KM and Average elevation of area is 1900 m) If anyone can help me it would be great.

  9. I found out that Aquaveo is having trouble with wall boundaries, but they will not give me the fix because I am using the community version. Kind of lame, but I guess I'll make my own workaround.
  10. Hi folks, I have model developed in USG with the stream package setup (not the river or stream routing packages). I am having problems with the steady state model runs not presenting the simulated stream flow results back to the arcs in the coverage file. Setup, In layer one we have various streams arcs built into the model from the conceptual model methods as per usual. We have several known observation flow gaging station results whose data I have input as arcs and arc groups in the conceptual coverage file. Observed flow checked and observed flow rate entered plus the observed flow interval. These were assigned into the model through, map to modflow, as per normal methods. I have gone in the Modflow-USG observation file and generated the flow observations in the Generate PEST observation data. No problems with well using this method. I can see the entered data in the "FlowObservation" and "FlowSample" dialogs. I run the model and we do not receive the results of the simulated flows back in the coverages file. the simulated flow is zero at my specified observation flow targets. This is looking at the conceptual coverage stream file attributes. I know this is wrong because I can go into the model output file and check the stream nodes adjacent to the observed flow targets and I have results. I would like to fix this problem or get some feed back from others, because I would like to try and run this in PEST to calibrate conductance and other parameters etc... But if the simulated results are not reading I don't believe this will work in PEST. With in regular modflow tutorials I have no problem setting this up and getting simulated results back in the conceptual coverage stream file. Cheers,
  11. Hi all, I have simulated embankment in gssha. I have offset the embankment up to 0.5m over the land surface. However, in the result, the overland flow did not move over the embankment with the flood depth of more than 0.5m. I would like to know how to set the overland flow to flow over the embankment, while the flood depth is more than the embankment height. Thanks so much. Ratino

Hi all, I have encountered the problem while running gssha model as follows: The error message stated that "The channel routing time step is getting really small less than 1/1000 of a second, reduce the model time step and/or MAX_CURRANT_NUMBER (default=0.4)". Please let me what the cause of the error and suggestion for solution. Thanks Ratino
  13. I had not seen that you can't use it internally. It seems odd because SMS says that wall boundaries can be used for islands and banks. See 8:03 in this youtube video:

    Converting 2D Meshes

    Thanks....v13 worked like a charm after I got my hands on it. I prefer interpolating surfaces in SMS than in ArcGIS b/c in my opinion, the results look better plus it is a lot quicker for me to generate and control how it is done in SMS
  16. I don't believe you can in 12.3 either. Can you not just convert the scatter points from the boat survey to a geotif in Arc? I am not sure about that either. Another possible solution is to check out QGIS, a free GIS software. I hope these answers help you.
  17. Rob, I don’t believe SMS 12.3 has the capability of converting to raster, someone correct me if I’m mistaken. I do happen to know that functionality was added to 13.0. In 13.0 you first convert the mesh to a scatter set by right-clicking on it and converting to scatter and then you right click on the scatter set and convert it to a raster. You can set the desired resolution and it will save out a geotiff. If you haven’t done so already, you could evaluate SMS 13.0 with a free trial and check it out. Or I’d also suggest looking into renewing your maintenance since 13.0 comes with some other useful features like improved LiDAR processing. calberts

I'm in SMS 12.3 and was wondering if there was a way to convert a 2D mesh representing bathymetric surface elevations of a lake to a GeoTIF raster so that I can import it into ArcGIS for further analysis. Do I convert first to something else like a grid or scatter set? I created the mesh from first converting scatter points collected during a boat survey to the 2D mesh via linear interpolation.   19. You cannot use a wall as an internal boundary condition. If you turn on Snap Preview (Shift+Q) after selecting the BC coverage in your simulation, you will see where it is actually being applied (mapped) . If you wish to block flow across an island, you could either raise the mesh elevations, or place two arcs for a weir BC and specify a high weir elevation. The area between the two arcs is excluded from the 2D calculations and replaced with the weir calculation.
  20. Hi all I am trying to use a wall for an internal boundary condition for an island to stop water from overtopping it. I keep getting errors that say can't have overlapping nodestrings, but none are overlapping. I am also getting srh errors (#51) about mesh connectivity. I have tried to renumber the mesh but that has not worked. Any ideas on what is going on? Thanks in advance:)

  22. I know this is an old topic I have same issue when i try to import recharge data from my conceptual model to MODFLOW. Im using GMS 10.3.2 currently & Model Has 64 Stress Periods and has more than 6000 cells...is there anyway that i can fix this issue or i should upgrade the software? (I also tried it with 10.4.5 but whenever i give a series to a cell after closing it and reopening there is no data in transient series)
  23. Hi Bri, I don't use SMS to run ADCIRC and don't use SMS project files. This would require a fair amount of extra effort.
  24. Hey Matt! Does your mesh have a boundary condition attached to it? If so, you can right-click on your simulation in the project explorer and choose "export ADCIRC" to create a fort.14 file, that you can then find in the simulation folder.
  25. Good morning, I am using the latest version of SMS 13.0 and cannot seem to find a way to save an ADCIRC mesh out as a *.grd/14 file format - just *.2dm. Is this functionality gone? Thanks. -Matt
  26. I did use the source arc method and it did reduce the number of problem areas substantial. In the past, I had redistributed the vertices in the arcs in a ridiculously fine pattern, thinking that would solve it, but it did not. The source arc redistribution, changed the way the Patch Section connected to each other. While this did help out with the exceeding the interior angle problem, my model still will not converge. I may post about that in a new post. I do not want to get off topic. Thanks for the help.
  27. Donald is right, you may have better luck with using the source arc redistribution for those bends in the channel. See the following wiki for more details: Source Arc Redistribution The problematic elements are likely the tight group of skewed elements I've circled in the image below: The other elements that are flagged could also be improved (and will be with source arc redistribution), but I wouldn't expect them to be the problem. -calberts
  28. Hold down the shift key and select both arcs. Then right click, distribute vertices. Click the source arc option and select which arc you want to copy to the other. You might have to break up that polygon into smaller ones to get it to work properly.
